The garden route offers some of the most diverse birding opportunities in South Africa with habitats ranging from Forests, fynbos, lakes and coastline all with a few kilometers of each other.
My favorite birding areas:
WOODVILLE: 45KM WEST OF KNYSNA
Offers fantastic forest birding along its short forest walk, ideal for a good morning outing. A Great area for White-starred Robin.
THE WILDERNESS REGION: 35KM WEST OF KNYSNA
The lakes area’s around Wilderness offer good areas for water birds and always has surprises lurking at the various hides and short trails.
BITOU AND KEURBOOMS RIVERS : PLETTENBERG BAY, 35KM EAST OF KNYSNA
A good mix of Forest birds as well as associated water birds. Exploring these waterways by canoe is always a treat!
NATURES VALLEY: 60 KM EAST OF KNYSNA
Offers a wonderful variety of Forest and fynbos species as well as a productive river estuary.
Please contact me for details on trips to the various areas.
